Essential Skills
you will develop in a Tech classroom
Numeracy
Students will develop numeracy skills when doing numerical estimating, calculating cost of materials, and analyzing measurements or data. They will strengthen their understanding of measurements, and accurately respect dimensions.
Oral Communication
Students will develop communication skills by working in groups to solve problems. They will aslo communicate in order to find information, and exchange thoughts. An effective member of a group will need to communicate their opinion as well as learn the appropriate way to talk to a peer, and resolve conflicts.
Working with Others
Students will learn the importance of team work in the Trades, and will be working collaboratively on a variety of projects that could include wood working, house building, film making, etc. They will be working as team leaders, and/or as a team member. They will also seek feedback from their peers to improve the outcome of a project.
Continuous Learning
Students will learn that being a life-long learner is an important skill in order to be successful at solving problems, developing solutions, and adapt to the ever changing landscape of technologies, and processes.
Literacy
Students will improve their reading skills when consulting safety procedure documents, reading directions, instruction manuals, as well as assignments.
Writing
Students will develop writing skills by maintaining logs, documenting the steps taken to solve a problem, design or build a product. They will write reflections about the work completed and could create posters, reference documents, write scripts, and much more..
Thinking
Students will develop the skills needed to evaluate ideas or information, to problem-solve, and to plan and organize. The Design Process that is a the core of Technological Studies helps students apply critical thinking and decision making through hand-on projects.

Document Use
Students will develop the skills needed to read, interpret, complete, or create documents. Students will refer to documents, find technical information, or log their own. Students will also create their own reference documents as well as document the Design Process.
Digital Skills
Students will develop their digital skills by using computers and tools that will allow them to design, document, build, and create products in a variety of Technology fields.
